Help

In this section of our program the students will interact as a team in the planning and developing of projects that will respond to the necessities of non-profit organizations that benefit the poorest strata of Ecuador. Fundraising events that are run and designed by the students will be the main source of funding for the project. For 2008, the company will work with El Proyecto Salesiano, a non-profit organization that helps kids getting off of the streets. This organization has various projects in different rural areas of Ecuador. The project the students participate in will depend on the month they attend the program. The main areas of concentration in the volunteer projects will be social, educational and health care.

Length: one 2 day project and 6 day afternoon project for each group.

In this section of the program the company’s main goal is to provide our students with the opportunity to gain academic field experience in the area of Biology, and a brief first hand experience in the health care field discovering what doctors really do, all in one program!

In order to do so the students will start by traveling to the enchanted Galapagos Islands. At the islands our students will encounter the unique animal species that gave rise to Darwin’s theory of evolution, explore the remarkable island ecosystems, observe sea lions, penguins, unique bird species, whales, pink flamingos in hidden lagoons and many other life changing experiences. During the duration of their stay at the islands our students will be accompanied by a natural biologist who will lead the expedition and will discuss biological topics of interest to the group, focusing on:  Darwin Research Station and Theory, Galapagos Animals and Marine Life, Bird Observation and Habitats, and the Volcanoes History and its Flora and Fauna.
After 7 days at the islands the students will travel back to Quito, Ecuador’s capital, for their medical rotations.

While in Quito our Bio-Medical students will be divided into small groups and will rotate through three different wards: surgery, internal medicine and physiotherapy. These rotations will take place in the most prestigious public and private health care facilities of Ecuador’s capital city, Quito.

Length:7 day Galapagos/  4 days of morning Medical Rotations
